“New Skin Technology Offers Patients Results of Facelift Without Invasive Cosmetic Surgery.” Where have I heard that before? Only about everywhere! This is the singly most-repeated line of BS in all of plastic surgery. Ever since I became a plastic surgeon, every year or two some person or company makes this claim. I can understand their motivation: they can’t do surgery, and so they make ridiculous comments. But the doctor quoted in this story shows beautiful facelift results on his site: http://www.drzubowski.com/photogallery/facelift-2855“. In fact, his results are about as good as I’ve ever seen. If those results can be achieved with a laser, let me know. If not, then we shouldn’t be saying “results of a facelift without invasive cosmetic surgery.”
In his defense – and I don’t know him – let me say that I’ve been misquoted myself in press releases sent out by manufacturers.
So assuming this was the manufacturer, and not the surgeon – where is the data to support such a statement? I couldn’t find a single scientific article in the medical literature, nor could I find any photo on the internet that even remotely approached the kind of results seen with a facelift. If I missed it – apologize. Please send me the links and I will print a retraction.
